Existing Conditions in our Current Jr. High Building
This is a snapshot of some of the immediate facility issues.
Many more exist that must be addressed so that we can offer a proper learning environment for our students.
-
High security risks exist without secure and monitored entrances to our schools.
-
Entrance door frames are severely rusted, posing a security risk.
-
Fire doors can no longer close, presenting safety concerns.
-
Doors on classrooms have door stops and vents which are considered a safety risk and fire code infraction.
-
70-year-old cloth-covered wiring often short circuits, and is not adequate to handle electrical service needs of the facility.
-
Most classrooms have 2 or less electrical outlets, which does not support the technology currently needed to teach our students. This results in the use of dangerous extension cords.
-
Roofing and masonry problems result in water damage to ceilings, walls and the structural integrity of the building.
-
Glass block, single pane windows, and obsolete hardware allow for a high volume of air filtration, poor indoor air quality, and wasting of precious energy dollars.
-
Mechanical systems are over 60 years old and can no longer function properly. Parts must be custom-made as they are no longer available.
-
Classrooms are uncomfortable and unproductive due to inadequate heating and cooling.
-
Inadequate and energy-inefficient lighting is directly linked to the quality of a learning environment.
-
Asbestos is present in flooring and walls, requiring full abatement.
-
Restrooms are not ADA compliant and no longer meet the recommended sanitation and design standards.
-
Gym floor is well past its useful life and cannot be sanded or refinished any longer, requiring costly replacement.
